How to Install and Activate Office 2024, 2021, and 2019 on Windows

From uninstalling previous versions to activating with a product key: the complete guide in Italian, including solutions to the most common problems.

First of all: Uninstall any other versions of Office

Many new PCs already come with a trial version of Microsoft 365. Go to Settings › App › Installed Apps, search for “Microsoft 365” or “Office” and uninstall everything, then restart your PC. Having two versions installed at the same time is the most common cause of activation issues.

Download the correct file

Visit our Download Page and choose exactly the version of your order (for example, “Office 2024 Professional Plus LTSC” or “Office 2021 Professional Plus”). The name must match the product you purchased: a Professional Plus product key will not activate a Standard installation, and vice versa.

  • EXE Installer (LTSC and 2024 versions): Choose 64-bit, unless you know you need the 32-bit version.
  • IMG Image (2021, 2019): contains both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Install

File EXE: Double-click and wait; download and install Office on your own (this will take a few minutes and requires an Internet connection).

File IMG: Double-click to open it as a drive and launch it Setup.

Let the installation finish without closing the window.

Enter the product key

Open Word. If you're prompted for a code, paste it. Otherwise, go to File › Account › Change Product Key (or “Activate Product”), paste the code from the email, and confirm.

Verification

In File › Account must appear “Product Activated”. Close and reopen Word: The activation applies to all included applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

Alternatively: Activation from the Command Prompt

For the Professional Plus, LTSC, and Standard editions, you can use the OSPP tool in Office. Open cmd as an administrator, and type:

cscript ospp.vbs /act

If you've installed the 32-bit version of Office on a 64-bit version of Windows, the folder is C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice16. With cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus Check the license status (it should say “LICENSED”).

If they ask you to activate it over the phone

If Office prompts you to activate by phone, select that option and write down the’Installation ID (the groups of numbers shown). Then use our free tool Get CID to obtain the confirmation ID and enter it in the same window.

Common Problems

“This product key cannot be used”: The installed version does not match the product key (for example, Standard instead of Professional Plus, or 2021 instead of 2024). Uninstall the program and install the correct version from the Download page.

Office asks you to sign in with a Microsoft account or offers Microsoft 365: A trial version is still installed. Uninstall it, restart your computer, and reopen Word.

“Unlicensed product” after installation: The code has not yet been entered. Follow step 3.

0xC004C003 o 0xC004C060: The code is blocked or no longer valid. Submit a request, and we'll replace it.

Do you have a Mac? The Windows versions do not work on macOS: for Mac, you need the “for Mac” products.
